About Tess

Thanks for stopping by this page to learn more about me! I’m a crime author who likes to write novels about heart-shattering crimes.
I’m a binger of crime podcasts, and I’m a loyal watcher of crime docs, including those on television going back to the year 2000. I was first hooked when I watched American Justice and Cold Case on A&E back in the 2000s when I was in university. I started watching these shows and reading more crime novels, which were spare back then.
In 2007, I moved back to Scandinavia, where I was introduced to Scandinavian crime. It’s dark, it’s raw, it’s terrifying and lonely. It’s a combination of real stories with horror that could very well happen. I was immediately inspired and consumed a lot of novels during my time there doing my Master’s degree. I’m now back in North America, but I’m continuously inspired by Scandinavian crime and I always have a novel by a new Scandinavian crime author on my nightstand.
And I drink coffee to keep my words flowing.

FAQ
Write Daily or Weekly?
Weekly, even though I would love to write daily. I give my ideas room to breathe and grow as much as possible. Sometimes, ideas sit in the back of my mind for years before I ever put ideas down on paper. That’s one of the great things I love about my process. That’s also why it can take some time for me to write my stories.
Novels or Non-Fiction?
A mix of both! I love getting deep into a story, but I also love getting educated by non-fiction writers. I watch a lot of documentaries and I used to watch a lot of crime shows. Marketing books and autobiographies are some of my favourite books. It may have to do with the fact that I love documentaries as well. However, on this page, I only write novels. It’s my place to explore and have fun!
Coffee or Tea?
Ohh – good question. Every morning, I’m definitely a coffee person. Black, with milk, lattes – you name it!
Music or Art?
While I can appreciate both art forms, I’m going to stick with music here. I’m personally a fan of soundtracks, especially when I’m writing scary scenes. Cinemix is a great source, so go support!
Mac n’ Cheese or Pizza?
We have pizza night at our house every Friday. It’s a tradition. But, if I could switch that with a good bowl of Mac n’ Cheese, I would. Not the store-bought Mac N’ Cheese with powder cheese, but a good, thick cheese sauce made with strong cheese and cream. And add some bacon. If not, then I’d probably opt for a burger instead. Actually, I could definitely do all three.
Facebook or Instagram?
I definitely spend more time on Instagram. I have a Facebook page, but let’s face it – Instagram is just more fun! The stories, the content and the profiles are just so much more engaging. You can follow me on Instagram here.
Solved or Unsolved?
Definitely a mixture of both. But I don’t like writing about the unsolved. As an author, I want to give all (or at least most) of the answers. Not sure I would ever write an unsolved novel, unless there was a plan to write a sequel. There’s some level of closure that closed cases get that I like. There’s a chapter that’s over and you can start grieving.
Introvert or Extrovert?
Oh, a mix of both. I wouldn’t call myself a full introvert because I’m not. I like people in doses, and I have no problem standing on a stage in front of a thousand people. But I’m definitely a private person.
Happy or Sad?
Happy in sad, grey, and rainy weather. How about that?
